Did anyone go to the international brewing and cider festival at the Mayfield last night?
I think this could be the contender for Manchesters Wonka experience.
I'm not sure where to start but let's start with the price £40 for entry and 5 beer tokens which in paper seems fine.
We walk into the hall and approach the first beer stand by a decent brewery and are told we can't use our tokens there. We quickly realise that we cant use out tokens at any of the stand (well the few stands that were there) and we'd have to use at the different section of the festival.
The other section consisted of around 9 keg taps a slightly larger cask section and a bottle bar.
We were greeted at the kegs at by an extremely rude person. We asked about the beers on the list and got the reply that only the 9 out at the moment are available until one runs out and we can put another one on. That's fine so I ask for the one the beers and got you can only have a third of that. After ordering the beer it took ages to pour and most of the plastic cup was foam. A few seconds later beer came flying from the back of where they were pouring all over some gusts. I should add the most of the beers on at the time were Joseph Holt and Adnans.
It was still early at this point so I expected it to get a bit busy but it never did combined with some depressing music and freezing cold temperatures the atmosphere was strange.
For my next drink I decided to go to the bottle bar and was told that the specialist beers were very limited stock and they would be sold out before the Saturday session. I picked one of the beers which the server poured for me but only poured half of the can as that's what my token entitled me to. I was shocked, the next person who wants that beer surely won't want it poured from a can that's been stood around for an undisclosed amount of time.
By this point we decided to leave at the same time as others. I didn't want to kick up a fuss as I just wanted to get out of there but an older guy was trying to find the organiser to get his money back.
Tldr: Shit beer fest in the Mayfield.
